Population density can lead to problems of housing, health and safety which in turn can reduce the level of prosperity that has been achieved.

Along with the increasing population, population density in the Asmat district also increased. The population density in 2007 had reached 3.15 km2 or 0.08 km2 increase from the previous year which was recorded at 3.07 km2. Districts with the highest population density is the Pantai Kasuari district, while the districts with the lowest density is Suator district with a population of about 4 people/km2.
